I've been hesitant about writing this review, but after seeing the similar two star review below, it's encouraged me to also share my experience which was equally characterised by poor styling and a lack of professionalism from the stylist. Before I attended the salon I had issues with how they managed their booking system. They allow you to book online and receive a confirmation email. However, the next day they email and call to tell you that your booking is not secure until you phone and place a deposit. This would be annoying but fine, had they not called me again to move my appointment by a week and then again to change the time on the day. By the time I attended the appointment, I had about six phone calls and multiple emails from them. They didn't need to make the process so laborious; I also should add for some background that I was incredibly nervous, having recently being diagnosed with a condition that affects hair which has given me anxiety for months. It took a lot to book this so being messed about during the booking process wasn't promising. I then arrived for my appointment and it went downhill. Despite stating the impact of serious health conditions, the stylist was incredibly condescending and belittling in their response. Although it was unintentional and without malice, it was evident that they had little understanding or training on how changes in health and disability can affect hair. I don't always expect my stylists to be be expertly trained trichologists, but I do expect understanding that people come into the salon to feel and look good, and to get help in styling their hair and not for a lecture in things beyond their control. Cutting to the end of the story, after a few tears and discussion, the end result was that my afro textured hair was fried and dried. It was such a shame as i had watched someone with straight hair come in and their finished looked was editorial, whereas mine was barley styled. I think there could be more training and understanding of not only the styling of afro textured hair but also the politics and psychology behind how to make people feel beautiful with it. I think maybe perhaps this happened because Floria wasn't there that dat as other reviews speak of how wonderful she is... Regardless, I'm sad I paid the full amount and didn't get back in touch, I was just made to feel so horrible that I wanted to leave and not think about it anymore. Reading the low reviews from people with afro textured hair and health conditions has helped me to write this so that hopefully the salon sees it and initiates some change for the next customers. Lastly, I hadn't visited a salon in a decade and visited two this year. I'm really sad to say that if this had been the only one I attended, I would never be going to a salon again.
Joshua did my 11 year old daugher's hair and provided a 5 star service. He did a fantastic job of her hair and provided lots of advice for how to care for her specific hair texture. I would highly recommend this salon.
