🚇 Peckham Rye 🍺 £6.90 Pillars Pilsner The White Horse sits at the northern end of Peckham Rye in Peckham, Southeast London, the nearest station is Peckham Rye. Historically known as the Old White Horse, it was originally built around 1780 and rebuilt in 1937 in a Brewer’s Tudor style by the former London brewery Charrington’s. Some original Toby signs can still be seen on the exterior. This traditionally decorated, two-bar pub has a marvellous characterful interior. The front bar is warm and inviting, with rich wall panelling, sumptuous banquettes, and a handsome period fireplace. Off to the side is a snug games area with a pool table, dartboard, and an original Charrington’s mirror. The servery features a nostalgic, timber-framed red Formica counter, flowing between the front bar, pool room, and back bar. The rear bar mirrors the decor of the front, and a mixed dining area at the back offers comfy booths. At the front is a covered beer garden with plenty of benches. The beer selection is strong, with mainstream options, local craft brews, and cask ales. I went for a Pillars Pilsner, a favourite of mine brewed in E17; my pint hit the spot, price point was slightly high. When I visited a Caribbean menu was available, but since September, @ricepaddy_london have taken over, offering Thai comfort food. I arrived at 4pm on a warm, cloudy Saturday. The pub was busy, with a mix of old-school regulars and new-school punters. The atmosphere was relaxed and convivial, with a decent soundtrack. Service was great — the team on duty were friendly and upbeat. The pub hosts a weekly quiz, live music, and DJ nights. I loved it here — a fantastic interior, solid beers, plenty to keep you entertained, and welcoming hospitality. A must-visit in Peckham.
